Educational Experience:

Professor Yuan obtained his master's degree in economics from Fudan University in 1987 and his PhD in economics from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in 1993.

  

Working Experience: 

In 2006 and 2007, YUAN was honored as the Changjiang Scholar and National Outstanding Teacher by the Ministry of Education of the PRC respectively. He used to be dean of the School of Economics at Fudan University (2004-2015).  Now, he is the director of Academic Committee in Faculty of Economics and Management at East China Normal University, State Department Disciplinary Group Expert, Deputy director of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Economics Department of the Ministry of Education. He is also an expert of the Shanghai Municipal Government's Decision Advisory Committee, the chief expert of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Decision-making Consultation Research Base Studio, the post-doctoral workstation deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Development Research Center, and the expert of Shanghai Municipal Master Planning Consultant.

  

Research Direction:

Professor Yuan has been engaged in disequilibrium theoretical research for many years, trying to apply this research method to China's economic analysis. He has authored the non-Walla equilibrium theory and its application in China's economy and won the 1997 China’s highest award of economics - Sun Yefang's Economic Science Award.


He has extensive influence in the study of macroeconomic issues covering employment, social security and social insurance for old people, household consumption, financial reform and real estate. Until now, he has published over 150 papers and 20 books.


Furthermore, he has been in charge of a variety of national research projects, including keyor major ones funded by the Ministry of Education and the National Social Science Foundation. For his research work he has received over 20 provincialand national awards such as the Shanghai Award for Outstanding Research in Philosophy and Social Sciences and the Ministry of Education Award for Research Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences.
