The Expats Excel Series is an online and offline series that platforms leading foreign businessmen and women who have worked in China and found their success through their inner talent. From webinars geared towards the softer skills that enable one to fit into the dynamic cross-cultural work environments to talks regarding how to launch business in China and key pointers - we ensure there is a key takeaway for everyone regardless of a student or entrepreneur in China.
While an intern at a Chinese startup in June 2023, Ella created the webinar as a way to reach foreign clients (the name helped by ChatGPT) and took on the full responsibility of reaching out to speakers, creating promotional materials, marketing, and growing the subsequent community to combine 400+ individuals. As she left that internship, Ella continued overseeing and organising the series and has since been joined by Nichola Li, Creative Content Lead and in charge of Business Development.
Alongside organising our webinars, we have also notably co-organized ‘Digital Entrepreneurship', an incredibly successful offline business event, in collaboration with The Xiji Incubator, and platformed 3 of their previous guest speakers.
Attending and volunteering firsthand for incredible startup and entrepreneurial events, Ella and Nichola realised there was a lack of events encouraging foreign student talent in China to share their projects and inspire their fellow peers. While academics is important and heavily emphasized, we also believed it was equally important to share internship and professional experiences to make the transition to working in China post-graduation more seamless! So we created “The Rising Talents Series', which focuses more on spotlighting rising talents and sharing professional development resources in China.

Notable professional speakers for our series include individuals like COO and Harvard Business Reviewer Renata Thiebaut, Motivational Speaker and Founder Janine Jakob, Famous Television Presenter and Founder Heidi Dugan. Other brilliant young talents we have spotlighted include Fisher Yu, HEBM Student from AEBS, as well as Youtuber Aziz Mlayel!
Fisher Yu’ sharing focused on three parts: how to get internship information, how to prepare for the interview, and what to gain from the internship. When it comes to obtaining internship information, she said that we should pay more attention to the first-hand formal channel information of the enterprise's Wechat public number and official website. In the part of preparing for the interview, she combined her own interview experience to explain from three parts: self-introduction, behaviour question and hypothesis question. He also shared his own answer framework and the interviewer's focus. In the last part of sharing her internship harvest, she mentioned that understanding the ability requirements of different positions in different industries, gaining learning by doing ability, and having a clearer understanding of herself are the secrets that make her grow step by step.

Now as Ella and Nic transition into a new phase of their studies and work experience, with Ella pursuing a consultancy internship and Sustainability Podcast ‘EcoSparks’, and Nichola with an Executive Talent Search internship - their overall goal is bringing together professionals and students across China, seeking out ambitious and inspiring talents.
