As the semester comes to an end, the time in China goes to an end as well, at least for some students from BBA 2021 intake, since France is waiting for them. Taking this as a chance, on July 1st, 2023, the Asia Europe Business School (AEBS) transformed into a delightful hub with a French flair. It was a momentous occasion as the first-ever French soirée took place, organized by a dedicated team of Chinese and international students from the BBA intake of 2021. This special event aimed to create cherished memories for a class that had been brought together during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the generous support of Emlyon Business School, ECNU, and AEBS, the French-themed evening unfolded as a farewell party for those students who would soon leave China and travel to France for the second half of their studies. Simultaneously, it served as an opportunity for those remaining in China to develop deeper connections with one another. The air was filled with joy as more and more classmates entered the decorated entrance room and dining hall, filled with balloons and flowers, and joined the Soireé in their beautiful outfits, making lasting memories and strengthening their bonds.

The evening was opened with warm welcoming words from the host, Cassandra Brüggemann, who joyfully guided the attendees through the first half of the event. Following her opening remarks, Associate Professor Yang Feifei, the AEBS BBA Academic Director, took the stage to share heartfelt and motivational words with the students, inspiring them for the way ahead.

On of the highlights of the evening came with the guest speaker, Norah Zhao, who shared about with her insightful experiences of studying in France. She delivered an engaging speech, sharing invaluable information and tips specifically tailored for those students about to depart on their French adventure. Her guidance encompassed everything from immersing oneself in the vibrant culture, discovering hidden gems, to effectively navigating life abroad. Norah´s words will for sure stay in the students’ mind and support them settling in in France.

In the spirit of fostering friendship, the event also incorporated interactive sessions where questions about France, China, and the class itself encouraged reminiscence of the first two years at AEBS. Guided by the Maxwell, classmates laughed together, sharing cherished memories and uncovering fascinating tidbits about both countries. The atmosphere was filled with mirth and nostalgia, strengthening the bonds that had already been formed throughout their time together.

To further immerse themselves in the French theme, attendees were treated to an authentic charcuterie and a delectable assortment of desserts, complemented by a selection of wine and non-alcoholic beverages. The dinner truly offered a culinary travel to France. As the small dinner concluded, the participants were left with free time to engage in various activities.

The joyous evening transitioned into a night filled with music and laughter as classmates sang their hearts out at the karaoke session. It was a delightful scene, as voices blended harmoniously, and more connections grew. The vibrant energy filled the room, creating an ambiance of pure celebration and unity.

Reflecting upon the event, the organizers felt a profound sense of fulfillment. The effort and dedication put into planning and executing the soirée had resulted in an unforgettable experience. The cherished memories created during that evening would undoubtedly stay in the minds and hearts of every participant for years to come. The French soirée had succeeded not only in bidding farewell to departing classmates but also in fostering a deeper connection among those remaining, creating a sense of belonging and unity within the AEBS community.

As the night ended, the students bid their farewells with bittersweet smiles, knowing that their individual journeys would soon take them to different corners of the world. However, the bonds forged that evening would stay, reminding them of the time they shared at AEBS.
